World Series of Poker raises $1.327 Million for Charity

The World Series of Poker has made a press release stating that it has raised $1.327 million for the charity One Drop. The One Drop charity works towards providing fresh water to people around the world.

The money was raised through the various tournaments that are held over the course of the year as well as through donations made by private parties. The goal for the year was to raise $1,1 million, which was determine prior to the year commencing however that goal was exceeded by almost $250,000! To date the WSOP has raised in excess of $6.8 million in the last few years.

Mitch Garber from the World Series of Poker stated “The World Series of Poker is incredibly proud of the poker community and their willingness to support such an important charity. As a group we have managed to raise almost $7 million to date and the combination of a world class event and philanthropy is something everyone should be proud of”

Guy Laliberté, the chairman of One Drop added “The WSOP has again made history through their dedication towards our collective cause. The winners are those we will be able to provide clean and safe drinking water to. It will allow those people to shatter the cycle that follows poverty and can now begin to look forward to a brighter future”
